Normandez’s fifth audio CD ‘Mental Bapui’ has a collection of 11 songs, mostly related to family ties and rendered in the form of solos, duets, duo and chorals.
The opening song, ‘Bapui Anik Padri’ by Normandez, is a reflection on the role of a father in the family and a priest in the church. He speaks about a father who gave good advice and instructions, but proved futile. He also speaks about a priest who tends to falter and fall, but people fail to realise that he too is human.
The following song, ‘Rain Dance’ by Sonia and Jesus Antao, is rendered, in a hilarious vein, as a conversation between a drunkard husband and his wife. The woman convinces her husband to give up drinking, but he counters her saying that he cannot part with his drink and would not mind if she seeks divorce. The alcoholic notes that he would not drink earlier, but as his grandfather was an alcoholic, he wishes to break his record.
‘Goodbye Teacher’, a choral by Stephanie Dez, Asvina, Akash and Lenoy Gomendes, is a befitting tribute to a departed teacher, who gave so much to her students during her time in school. The students, some who trod the wrong path, others who were orphans, remember their teacher who showed them the right way. Parents rejoice when children are born, but it is the teachers who care for them as their own in school, they conclude.
‘Mental Bapui’, a duet by Chitra and Normandez, speaks about a man who delivers a lost bag to its owner. The woman is impressed and wishes to publish the good gesture on a daily. The man relates his story, telling her how he was abandoned by his son at the railway station after demolishing his old house and building a new bungalow. He expects his son will return and welcome him back home.
The songs ‘Bhurgeam Zolmotoch’ by Roma and Normandez and ‘Teg Bhoino’ by Stephanie Dez, Merlyn and Asvina focus on cordial ties in the family. The former speaks about sacrifices of parents towards their children and the outcome of it. The latter highlights the importance of girl child in the family. All the three sisters are well educated and after successful employment, unlike the sons, they care for their aging parents.
The concluding song, ‘Facebook’ by Normandez, unveils the secret of friendship and its revival through Facebook. The consequences of encounter on FB have been highlighted at the end of the song.
The album has been recorded at Lens Digital Studio, Sirlim, with soothing music by Lenoy Gomendes and lyrics, tunes by Normandez. The introduction of the violin, besides the brass instruments, enriches the album still further.
