PORVORIM: The Goa Land Revenue Code Amendment Bill 2017 regularising the Alvara properties was passed in the state legislative assembly despite the opposition demanding that the bill be referred to the select committee.
The bill seeks to amend section of 37 of Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968 (Act 9 of 1969) so as to include word “Government” and by inserting section 37A and 37B prescribing the process for regularisation for grants under Alvara.
The Bill further seeks to amend section 24 to provide powers to the government for transferring land held under occupancy class 2 to occupancy class 1 and to suitably amend section 38,39 and 40 corresponding to insertion of new sections 37A and 37B.
The Congress MLA and former Chief minister Pratapsingh Rane, during the discussion, said that he wanted to see the papers connected to this bill as most of portions had been deleted.
“The papers are in Portuguese language and due to this I suggest that the bill be referred to the select committee,” said Rane.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat also said that the bill is important and needs to be referred to the select committee.
“This bill is very important. In absence of the paper, it will be very difficult and I suggest it should be referred to select committee. The committee should be given short time but it should be sent to a select committee,” said Kamat.
