PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday assured the State legislative Assembly that he would institute a vigilance inquiry into the number of works undertaken by the Panlot Sangh.
Pointing to the huge expenditures incurred for execution of watershed activities, especially construction of trenches, Parrikar said ‘I am not comfortable with these figures. There is clear corruption and misappropriation of funds.”
The chief minister said that vigilance inquiry would be conducted to identify the corruption and officials involved in it and action would be initiated accordingly. “Before the end of this session, heads will roll,” he assured.
He was replying to the question tabled by Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, who brought to the notice of the House the large scale expenditure in construction of trenches by Panlot Sangh.
The various works undertaken by the Sangh include construction of trenches, recharge pits, sunken pond, counter bund, live fencing, check dam, Development of vermi-compost unit, horticulture cultivation, etc
According to the reply tabled in the House, Parrikar has said that Panlot Sangh was promoted by project implementation agency for watershed. He also said that department has discovered the rise in the ground water level as a result of activities of Panlot Sangh.
