MARGAO: Robberies in Margao and Fatorda have increased to such an extent that victims have now begun voicing their disgust over social media and personally to media personnel. Two buildings in the same locality were robbed in a matter of a week. And the pattern was the same in both, with no clues left behind. This, locals say, seem to be happening in the presence of the police.
Four flats in the same building were burgled in a single night on Wednesday. This robbery happened on the same day when a bungalow in Fatorda was burgled. The flat of Hemant Asnotikar was broken in from the front door. Gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 50,000 were robbed from his house. The robbers struck when the family had gone out. Another flat on the same floor was robbed and valuables taken.
People from the area are agitated with the failure of law and order in the areas and a victim of these robberies said, “We fear leaving our houses now as we don’t trust what may happen in the night. The police need to pull their socks up.”
The TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai had faced the same questions by Fatorda residents in an earlier meeting and while reacting to the fresh cases, said, “I have been time and again asking for a separate police station for Fatorda and I now reiterate my demand that Fatorda needs a separate police station.”
