PANJIM: Goa Forward Party leader Atanasio Monserrate is once again eyeing the St Cruz constituency with the opening of a local office on Sunday. Conceding that developmental work was not up to the mark during his last tenure, he blamed the Laxmikant Parsekar-led government for being uncooperative to Opposition MLAs.
“When I was MLA, nothing much could be done. We were in the Opposition (Congress). In the last term, the former government (Parsekar-led coalition) didn’t support me and the treatment that I got was as if I am a legislator from another state,” he said.
He further justified that his predecessors had miserably failed to develop the constituency despite holding on to the seat for many years.
Town & Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai also took a dig at the ongoing situation at St Cruz, which has Congress’ Tony Fernandes as the MLA. “Our party will do (bring development) what the present MLA cannot do,” he said. Incidentally, Fernandes was also present at the event.
Babush was instrumental in getting Fernandes a Congress ticket for the 2017 assembly polls. He said that Fernandes continues to remain his friend and that he will continue to work in St Cruz despite presence of the sitting legislator.
