Lloyd, Rukhi excel at para table tennis tourney

PORVORIM: Lloyd Fernandes won the first place in the North Goa district wheelchair category at the two-day event of Coaching and District Level Tournament for Para Table Tennis, at Sanjay Centre for special education, Porvorim, recently.
Para Table Tennis Committee of Goa Table Tennis Association Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA) led by president Vero Nunes, has been encouraging the para players for coaching and district level tournament by giving their full support and go ahead with the most unique sports event in Goa.
Vishant Nagvekar and Anupa Pilgaonkar bagged the second and third place respectively.
In the South Goa wheelchair category, Ruki Ahamad won the first place while Patric D’Souza bagged the second place. Dr Vihal Rane had to settle for the third place.
In the North Goa standing category,Chetan Salgaonkar claimed the first place followed by Sachin Gad and Nigel Lourenco at second and third places respectively.
Gopal Naik won the South Goa standing category ahead of Chandrakant Guade(second place) and Suraj Naik (third place).  
A total of 22 para players standing and wheelchair, participated in the tournament.  Anupa Pilgaonkar was the only woman entry in the event, who competed with men players and won third place defeating her contenders.
Earlier, Senior Journalist Sandesh Prabhudessai was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 2- day coaching and district level tournament.  Avelino Desa, President, Disability Rights Association, (DRAG), and Secretary for Para Table Tennis Committee of Goa Table Tennis Association was also present during the inaugural ceremony. 
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by guest of honour, Sheru Shirodkar, Member Secretary, Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Vivek HP, SDM, North Goa and special guest Guruprasad Pawaskar, Chairman, Sanjay Centre for Special Education.  All three guests distributed the participation certificates and Trophies for the winners.
