PORVORIM: Senior Minister and Head of the House Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Thursday informed the State legislative assembly that Government has decided to constitute all party committee under chairmanship of Chief Minister to decide strategy of resuming/continuing mining activity in the State.
Dhavalikar said the government has decided to constitute the committee following the in-length discussion on mining issue on Wednesday across party lines.
He said the committee will also follow up with the various agencies of the State and Central government and if required the same committee would meet Prime Minister of India.
It may be recalled that the House was unanimous in demanding that mining operations should continue in the State even after March 15 and that government should ensure the activities do not stop as directed by the Supreme Court, which has set aside the second renewal of 88 mining leases.
The MLAs, however, stood divided on the methodology to be adopted for granting fresh leases on whether to auction or set up a corporation for operation of mines. The legislators had demanded that the House may pass a resolution to lead 40-member delegation to the Centre seeking its intervention to ensure that the mining activities continue in the State.
