PANJIM: The Directorate of Civil Supplies on Monday decided to provide doorstep delivery of the food grains to the beneficiaries, who have tested COVID-19 positive.
Civil Supplies Minister Govind Gaude informed that 90 per cent of the ration cardholders have already lifted their monthly allotment from the fair price shops for the current period.

“There are 10 per cent who have not lifted it. If they are the COVID-19 positive patients or are in home isolation, then our department staff will ensure that the food grains allotted as per their ration card, is delivered at their doorstep,” the minister said.
Gaude said during the first pandemic wave and subsequent lockdown, the department staff had ensured that the supplies were provided to people at their doorstep.
He informed that for the current pandemic too, the State will receive food grain quota under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana, meant for the families Below Poverty Line (BPL).
“Last time, 98 per cent of the beneficiaries of PMGKY had fetched their share of food grains, which is highest percentage in the country,” he said.
Gaude said this time, the department will provide food grains under normal Public Distribution System and PMGKY together.
