PONDA: A lady teacher from Dhavshirem Government High School, at Usgao, created a scene by grabbing a knife and threatening to stab herself in the stomach for transferring her to the primary section, on Monday.
It is pertinent that the high school and the primary section are run on the same campus.
The students and the parents of the primary section boycotted classes on Saturday over shortage of teachers. To resolve the issue, Assistant Education Director Dilip Bhagat visited the school on Monday and handed over an order transferring the teacher to the primary section. However, on reading the order, the teacher reacted strongly leaving the officer and the agitating parents in shock: she suddenly grabbed a knife and threatened to stab herself in the stomach if she is transferred to the primary section.
“She said that she will commit suicide, but will not accept the transfer order; she termed it as harassment. She told the parents of primary students that she would not teach their children,” said a parent.
When asked on Tuesday what disciplinary action is taken against the teacher, the ADEI refused to comment. However, sources said that the Education Department has asked the teacher to go on leave, as she “is mentally disturbed.”
Meanwhile, the parents have strongly demanded that the “mentally disturbed” teacher be transferred.
