MARGAO: The Betalbatim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to collect garbage from village households using Panchayat resources.
Sarpanch Esperance Fernandes informed that both wet and dry garbage shall be collected by the panchayat and sought the cooperation of the villagers to achieve the objective. Earlier, replying to the query from gram sabha member Marcus D’Souza, the sarpanch informed the gram sabha that presently garbage was being collected by the MLA with his own resources. A request by Bonny Pereira seeking permission to collect the garbage at Sunset beach was turned down by the sarpanch. The sarpanch informed the gram sabha that the estimated revenue of trade tax from hotels would enrich the panchayat by Rs 15 lakh per year according to assessment done by the committee.
Two committees – development and vigilance committee have been constituted. Earlier, Joaquim Faleiro raised the issue of encroachment of open space at Nagwado-Betalbatim, wherein sarpanch promised to hold a joint inspection. Faleiro also asked the sarpanch for the details of development works carried in village during current government ruling; however, the sarpanch informed that a number of proposals have been submitted and are pending approval. D’souza also raised the issue of revenue collection and expenditure incurred by the panchayat.
