CURCHOREM: The fish vendors in the Curchorem fish market,
which was recently renovated by the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC),
had a tough time as the market got flooded on Monday afternoon. According to fish vendors including nearby shops occupants, the
municipal authorities renovated the market, but failed to reconstruct the
existing dilapidated drainage. “The Council did not clean the existing drainage nor repair
it before monsoon and as a result the drainage got chocked inside, the
rainwater started overflowing and entered inside the shed,” said a nearby
shop owner, who urged the council to clean the drainage immediately or else there
are chances of water entering their shops if it rains continuously. “When the water entered we had to stand and sell the fish
as there was no other option,” complained Milagres, a fish vendor, who requested
the authority to take the immediate steps to prevent similar situation in
future. Chairperson Balkrishna Hodarkar assured to do the needful
immediately. “The plan to construct a new drainage around the market,
which will be connected to main drainage, has been approved along with
financial approval. However, due to COVID lockdown the floating of the tender got
delayed,” Hodarkar said and assured to clean the existing drainage by
Tuesday.
