PANJIM: Keith De Souza, 20-year-old lad from Mapusa secured his maiden podium finish in the Indian Junior Touring Car National Racing Championship held at the MMSC Race Track in Chennai, recently.
The Indian Junior Touring Car series (IJTC) is a feeder series to the pinnacle of touring car racing in India. Keith driving the Unimek Racing car, which is tuned by his father Vincy, started the race in the fifth position and fought his way up to the third position.
It was a battle till the finish and Keith finished just 0.3 seconds behind second place and a few seconds behind the winner. This is Keith’s second year in the national championships and is already beating the more experienced teams and drivers.
He is also looking out for sponsors to fuel his ambitions in the higher categories and international racing. Unimek Racing is the first Goan team to step on the podium of the national championships.
The championship consists of three more rounds and the remaining two will be held at Kari Motor Speeway Coimbatore and The Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi. In the next round Keith is aiming for the top spot and the national champion title.
