MARGAO: Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) has extended support to Retired Merchant Navy Seafarers Association of India (RMNSAI) with reference to resuming the retired pension scheme and health benefits for the seafarers and their families.

The GSAI has acknowledged the demands and supports the cause of RMNSAI, which organised protests across India on Saturday. RMNSAI has demanded pension and medical benefits for all Merchant Navy retired seafarers, pension and medical benefits for the widows of retired seafarers and also that Seafarers Welfare Fund Society (SWFS) should do welfare by starting pension scheme for the retired seafarers.
The GSAI organised protest in a peaceful manner with its retired seafarers and widows outside its office at Madel, here, and supported the cause to show solidarity and support to RMNSAI.
“Protests are being held across India for the cause of our retired seafarers and widows for quite a while and requested the Central government, as seafarers being the key workers, by highlighting the issues via press conference, social media and gatherings but the Government of India till date have shown any interest in considering our demands. Haven’t resumed the pension scheme or health benefits nor gave any indication of resuming the scheme,” informed the GSAI .
The GSAI appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the pension and health benefits are properly discharged and offered to the right parties employed in the shipping industry, the retired seafarers and widows.
