PANJIM: Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik told the House that his department would also conduct camps to create awareness among the Dhangar community about tribal schemes, since these have been extended to them, but there have been no takers for the schemes thus far.
Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho pointed out that despite the existence of schemes, people have not been benefiting. He said that there has been lack of awareness about the scheme within the Dhangar community.
“All efforts would be made to ensure that benefits reach the people,” Naik said.
The minister said that the Dhangar community is currently enjoying the benefits of tribal schemes as well as six other special schemes, which were drafted for the OBC category.
Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure that no discrimination is meted out to the beneficiaries in availing the benefits of several tribal schemes, the State government has decided to conduct special camps at in talukas with high tribal concentration from May onwards, Tribal Minister Ramesh Tawadkar told the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The minister said that department would reach out to the community by identifying the beneficiaries and creating awareness about the long list of schemes meant for tribals. “No discrimination would be meted out to the beneficiaries. We will not see whether he is a BJP supporter or Congress. All would be covered,” Tawadkar said.
