Couple of weeks, I had a trip to the Vasco jetty where the trawlers unload their catch fish. I was perturbed with the grim situation around. Yes, the surroundings, the vehicles there had turned red. The same was being carried over to the houses around the residential area. So, Coal isn’t only the issue Vascokars are facing but also the Bauxite that is being unloaded at the fish jetty.
A drive to the new highway from Mangor turned out to be informative as the sun went down the Arabian Sea while we drove to Sada and down to MPA.

A well planned strategy to carry the coal by road straight from MPA to Karnataka besides what is opposed by rail. It’s not only Vascokars who are affected by the killer coal and bauxite but certainly, peace loving Goans!.
On 26th January the Nation honoured the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India and celebrated the 74th Republic day.
The Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, and came into effect on January 26, 1950, with a democratic government system, completing the country’s transition towards becoming an independent republic. January 26 was chosen as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1930 when Declaration of Indian Independence Purna Swaraj was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by British Regime.
In a democratic country, sovereignty means the independent authority of a State. It means that it has the power to legislate on any subject; and that it is not subject to the control of any other State or external power.
But, today, Goa is sick and ailing. It is down with chronic diseases which needs urgent medication. In a democratic sovereign country which gives powers for a state to have independent authority is overruled and the Mhadei issue is an apt and befitting example as we have been reading in our dailies and the open statement of Karnataka CM announcing that the Central government has approved detailed project report (DPR) on Mhadei river’s Kalasa-Bandura project, and told the Legislative Assembly at Belagavi that the Central Water Commission has cleared the diversion of 1.72 TMC of water from the Kalasa dam 2.19 TMC from Bandura dam. He said that the Central Government accepted the DPR of the state government.
We have just celebrated the Republic Day… but do the people have freedom to raise their voice and get their demands met? Or are the people bulldozed with government machinery, by the government controlling everything, a government who is ought to be of the people, by the people and for the people?
God Almighty, sent His only Begotten Son to save the humankind from sin and through His passion, death and resurrection, won for us life eternal. For the sake of the whole human race, one man died and here are we seeing and witnessing the opposite? Is the human race or people of Goa, and the State with its flora and fauna, rivers and seas – beaches and forest – offered as a sacrifice for the sake of One man – to destroy eternally?
