MAYEM: Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant has flayed Congress party leaders for making baseless statements with regard to BJP’s role in the Mhadei river water and Kalsa bhandura project issue.
Dr Sawant was targeting Congress party spokesperson Durgadas Kamat for his reported statement that BJP leaders should have sought help from Congress party leaders as far as Kalsa bhadura project issue is concerned.
Dr Sawant in his statement had said that the Digambar Kamat-led Congress government in Goa indirectly supported the Karnataka government to divert Mhadei river water by giving consent letter in 2009.
“Under such circumstances, Congress party should not make baseless statements like advising the BJP,” said Dr Sawant.
Dr Sawant said the issue was highlighted only after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar treated it seriously with the help of media persons and environmentalists. He called upon Congress party leaders to study the matter properly before making any statements.
He said the issue started during the Congress regime in the State and the Kamat-led government did not give serious thought to it and did not take any concrete action and this is why the issue has gone on for so long.
