MAPUSA: A brace by Pankaj Sona and another goal by Seriton Fernandes was enough as Churchill Bros Sports Club trounced nine-man Guardian Angel Sports Club 3-0 to move on top of the Goa Pro League, at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday. They led 2-0 at half time.
Nicolau Borges and Anthony Pereira, both former Dempo SC stalwarts now playing for Guardian Angel SC received red cards in the second session.
The Red Machines moved on top of the table with 10 points from four matches while Guardian Angel SC suffered their second successive defeat and are in the eighth position with three points from as many matches.
The Varca outfit took the lead in the very first minute of the match as Pankaj set up Seriton for an easy tap in past Guardian Angel SC custodian Jovial Coutinho.
Four minutes later, Seriton returned the favour, setting up Pankaj in a similar fashion to make it 2-0.
The defence of Guardian Angel SC were taken by surprise and they took some time to regroup. In the 25th minute, they created a promising move as Rogef Colaco set up Gammy Costa in an ideal position but the latter’s effort did not materialize.
Post resumption, Guardian Angel SC started in the right earnest as Nicolau’s long ranger sailed inches over.
However, in the 67th minute, Nicolau, who was already booked earlier for a tackle on Seriton came up with another reckless challenge on the same player to receive a second yellow card which was followed by the inevitable red card by referee Tejas Nagvenkar.
Churchill Bros SC made good use of the numerical advantage and Pankaj inflated the tally in the 76th minute with a chip over the rival custodian for his brace.
In the injury time, Guardian Angel SC medio and skipper Anthony lost his cool and was handed a second yellow card for a dangerous challenge and was sent off.
