PANJIM: Family members of the lady police constable who committed suicide, have demanded a fair probe in the case.
Speaking to the media, the constable’s elder sister, Veena Parsekar Naik, said that an impartial inquiry can be conducted only after the PSI named by the family in the complaint is suspended. She alleged that there is every possibility of witnesses being influenced and threatened if the PSI remains in service.
“The alleged accused, being a high rank police officer, is likely to destroy evidence and also put pressure on witnesses. He may use his position and clout in the department and he may also influence departmental witnesses,” she said.
Naik further said that her sister, being a woman constable, became a victim of sexual, physical and mental exploitation at the young age of 20 years at the hands of a higher-ranked officer.
“Police are telling the family that it is the case of suicide. Without admitting the fact that it is a case of suicide, Police must tell the family and public how they have arrived to the conclusion that it is the case of suicide and not murder? And if it is suicide what compelled her to commit suicide? Who instigated and incited her to commit suicide at this young ago? Who is responsible for her death? Who is the abettor to this crime?” Naik asked, saying that all these questions have remained unanswered.
She said her sister was a strong girl and would not end her life by herself. “The PSI, intentionally with ulterior motive, instigated and lured the deceased victim and established with her a physical and sexual relationship by giving her false promise of marriage by using his authority and power being her senior officer, while she was attached to Verna Police Station as constable and then systematically eliminated her as he found her to be a hurdle in getting married to some other girl,” the sister claimed.
