PANJIM: After making “business of people’s sickness” during nationwide COVID-19 lockdown last year, the insensitive BJP government’s “politics of opportunism” now stands exposed from the “Tika Utsav”, charged Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) General Secretary Amarnath Panjikar.
Panjikar alleged that the government is organising COVID-19 vaccination camps in municipal wards, which are going to elections next week by violating election Code of Conduct. The publicity hungry BJP has printed leaflets and posters of “Tika Utsav” with photographs of the local BJP functionaries. This is nothing but “politics of opportunism”, he said.
Panjikar said that former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar always played “politics of opportunism” and his legacy is now carried forward by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. They have no concerns for people’s emotions and sentiments.
“BJP wants to take cheap political mileage even at the cost of people’s health,” he added.
Last year Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP were in “celebration mode” when COVID-19 cases were growing. Instead of taking advance precautionary measures they engaged people in “taali bajav, thaali bajav and diya jalav” events. Prime Minister Modi had also made his trademark “jumla” announcement of COVID going away in 18 days. Unfortunately, nothing worked and people are facing hardships till now, said Panjikar.
“We demand that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane must intervene in the matter and immediately stop the “Political Tika Ustavs” of BJP. The Health Minister must convene a meeting of all MLAs and come out with an action plan taking all stakeholders into confidence. No political interference must be allowed in COVID vaccination drive,” Panjikar said.
