VASCO: In a bizarre incident, an all-time low inter-departmental harmony among railway staffers at Vasco railway station was revealed. The platform turned into a fighting arena and surprisingly, there were no railway policemen to curb the incident.
The matter took place at around 9.30 pm, when a boy and a girl (examinees) who had apparently come to Goa to appear for written tests pertaining to some competitive jobs and were waiting to board Vailankanni Express. They had come from Dharward. They purchased the general class tickets and as their train was scheduled to leave around 9 am, Monday, they had nowhere to go, so they sought the Railway authorities’ permission to wait at the platform.
The ticket collector, Radheshyam Kumar, allowed them to relax and wait for the train around the illuminated area of the platform after he sought approval from his seniors. However, after a few minutes, another railway staff Gangappa, approached them and “ordered” them to leave the station premises. Radheshyam intervened and requested Gangappa not to harass them as he had sought permission for them to sit there till 9 am. But Gangappa refused to relent. This led to an altercation and a scuffle. Gangappa got the better of Radheshyam and started hurling abuses at him.
Another railway staff Chandan Kumar Singh, who intervened, was also allegedly assaulted by Gangappa. Finally, the matter was reported to Vasco Railway Police and a non-cognizable case against Gangappa was registered. Sources at Vasco Railway Station have also informed that Radheshyam Kumar has been admitted to GMC, Bambolim after he was referred from Cottage hospital.
Though the Goa Police claimed that Vasco Railway Station is manned by the policemen as well as RPF round-the-clock, not a single policemen or RPF came to Radheshyam’s rescue.
