MARGAO: A traffic jam was witnessed at the Old Market Circle in Margao on Thursday morning, around the time of the feast Mass at Holy Spirit Church located nearby.
While the High Mass of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at Holy Spirit Church Margao began at 9.30 pm, Thursday also marked the first day of the week-long fair, in the SGPDA grounds on either side of the Circle, in the heart of Margao.
However, later in the day and in the evening, there was no major traffic issues, with the traffic police manning the Circle and fair area to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Earlier this week, the South Goa District Collector had held a meeting regarding the traffic arrangements, following which the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) held multiple inspections where steps were taken to see that the footpaths and the roads were not blocked.
Arrangements had been made for parking as well, and clear no-parking zones were demarcated, and followed by visitors to the fair. There was however some criticism from Goa Forward Party (GFP) leaders.
