PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the illegal mining scam has asked the North Goa District and Sessions Court to dispose the anticipatory bail application filed by former mines officials Arvind Lolinekar and Agnelo D’Souza stating that they have not been examined by the investigation officer and hence need of custodial interrogation cannot yet be ascertained.
The SIT reply, filed on Tuesday, states that at the current stage of investigation, they cannot conclude whether they would require custodial interrogation of the two officers. SIT further stated that when the investigation officer arrives at the conclusion that custodial interrogation of the duo is required, they will give the officers 48 hours notice to take necessary steps.
In view of the facts on records, SIT has prayed that the anticipatory bail applications be disposed with the liberty to the applicants to file a fresh application at the relevant stage.
SIT also stated before the court that witnesses are coming forward to provide evidence against bureaucrats and the politicians who were in hand in glove with the accused persons concerned in the crime.
Lolienkar and D’Souza were summoned by SIT for questioning in the illegal mining scam. They filed the anticipatory bail pleas before the court and were granted interim relief.
