MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) may have cleared the salaries and wages of municipal employees and daily wage workers on the eve of Diwali festival but more than 300 employees were deprived of the Diwali bonus due to shortage of funds.
According to Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer, the municipal employees will have to wait for some more days to receive the Diwali bonus.
Speaking to Herald, the CO said the civic body managed to clear the salaries of all the employees including daily wage workers on the eve of Diwali so that they can enjoy the festival.
“Keeping in mind the Diwali festival my first priority was to release the salaries on time. Now, we will try hard to release the Diwali bonus to hundreds of employees but they have to wait for some more days”, said CO.
‘A’ grade Municipality of Margao is struggling due to the financial crises for the last few months. And hence, the civic body has expedited the recovery process in order to lessen the burden.
According to sources, employees have even not got their uniform allowances which were supposed to be paid in the month October.
“We are still waiting for the uniform allowances from the civic body”, said an employee requesting not to mention the name.
