PANJIM: With Goa likely to experience more rains till November 7 along with thunderstorms and lightning, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa Observatory has urged citizens to avoid moving in open areas or taking shelter under trees or structures.

IMD Goa has also said that the clouding and thunderstorm activities may affect crops during the rainfall period. The fishermen are also warned against venturing into sea till November 10.
In a press statement issued, IMD has issued Yellow colour alert for the coastal State till November 7, with possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms and lightning.
IMD informed that a low pressure area lies over Southeast and adjoining east central
Arabian Sea and the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level.
“It is likely to move north-northwestwards and become a well marked low pressure area over East central Arabian Sea during next 24 hours and concentrate into a depression over the same region during the subsequent 24 hours,” IMD said.
Goa is witnessing heavy showers for last couple of days. In last 48 hours, State recorded 21.1mm of rainfall.
The post monsoon activities have been very active over the coast, with State receiving over 69 per cent of surplus showers since October 1 till date. In last one month, State has recorded 275.2mm of rainfall, as against the average trend of 163.8mm of rains.
