VASCO: Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, villagers and the South Western Railway (SWR) officials on Monday carried out joint inspection along the railway double tracking works to solve issues related to traditional farmers and blockage of the traditional creek.

Vas called on the villagers to bring their proposals pertaining to drainage, retaining wall and overbridge to him so that they could be solved before completing the work of laying tracks. He said only the five-km double tracking stretch from Arossim to Sancoale was pending.
The MLA along with railway authorities visited the site following a letter by Velsao-Pale-Issorcim Sarpanch Diana Gouveia stating that the railways had blocked the traditional creek that could cause flooding in farmlands. Also the Pale Tolem Xetkaranche Association submitted a representation to the MLA and requested him for an immediate site inspection.
After the inspection, the railways authorities agreed to remove the pipes laid in the creek within a month.
Vas said that the proposed given by the Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim village panchayat for construction of a pedestrian bypass and underpass has been submitted to the SWR for favourable decision.
He appealed to the villagers to come forward with their proposals if any to his notice so that he can place them before the railways authorities and settle them.
The MLA said that once the railways complete their work it would be difficult for all to force them to make any changes.
