The three-day Spirit of Freedom organized by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan here on Wednesday.
The film Haqeeqat was screened on the opening day of the festival, which was attended by school students.
Addressing the students after opening the festival, Water Resources Minister, Filipe Neri Rodrigues said the idea behind organizing the second edition of the festival is to inculcate the spirit of freedom amongst the younger generation. “Through this festival, the young minds will know more about the history and sacrifices made by the freedom fighters”, he said, adding that no country can move ahead without recognizing the values of freedom.
Making an appeal to the students to become the torch bearers of freedom as they are the future leaders of the country, Rodrigues underlined the need to inculcate in the minds of the students the importance of freedom like religion.
“Every student should think about the future of the country”, he said, while requesting teachers and parents to motivate their children to participate in NCC and NSS to inculcate in them discipline and a secular outlook.
