Political parties mobilized on Wednesday to denounce the alleged sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman aboard a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus at the crowded Swargate bus depot. Vasant More, a leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), along with his supporters, vandalized the MSRTC office at Swargate in response to the incident. Union minister and local MP Murlidhar Mohol stated that such acts will not be tolerated. “I have contacted the police commissioner and requested the swift apprehension of the perpetrator. We will provide full support to the police in maintaining law and order within the city,” he affirmed.

NCP (SP) MP and party executive president Supriya Sule expressed her concerns regarding an incident that occurred in close proximity to a police station in a bustling area, indicating a troubling lack of fear among criminals regarding law enforcement. She emphasized that this situation raises significant alarms about the safety of women within the state. Sule pointed out that serious crimes are being committed daily in the city, highlighting the Home department’s failure to effectively address these issues. She called for severe penalties for the perpetrator and insisted that the case be expedited through a fast-track court.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare remarked that the occurrence of a rape in a crowded area, coupled with the rising crime rates in the city, illustrates a concerning absence of police control over law and order. She noted that criminals appear to operate without fear of repercussions. Andhare urged the guardian minister to demand an explanation from the city police regarding the worsening law and order situation.
