It is a matter of very deep concern that Aadhar centre at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Margao lacks the capability of sorting out even minor Aadhar card-related issues, causing the common people hardships and inconvenience for no fault of theirs.
If I am not mistaken, the Supreme Court has clearly stated that Aadhaar Card is not a mandatory document but sadly nothing is moving in our beloved country without the Aadhar card.
My 76-years-old mother, who is totally on her own and not even claiming any single dole from the government got her Aadhaar Card done when it was first launched on the basis of her EPIC card.
To our surprise the year of birth printed on the Aadhar Card was 1992, which makes her 19 years younger to me. I tried correcting this mistake a long time ago by mailing the required papers to the concerned authorities via Indian post but no response was received.
Even today, my old mother shows no interest in getting it corrected but I am forced to do the correction because today it is even difficult to die a peaceful death without a Aadhar card.
I personally tried to do it online but for some reason turned out to be unsuccessful. May be I am not competent enough to use the respective website. I contacted the Quepem Goa Aadhar centre because it’s the closest from my location, but they turned out to be so busy that they didn’t even have time to respond to my simple queries.
Later I left for Curchorem and was really not surprised to witness the closing down of the centre and then proceeded to the private Aadhaar centre at Margao where they instructed me to contact the Aadhaar centre at Matanhy Administrative complex, Margao as my mother is not capable enough to present herself, which is required to get the issue sorted out as per the lady who attended me.
I followed her advise and headed for the same. The good guy at the Complex advised to meet someone called Amonkar, the big boss at the centre. I met him and he too politely gave a negative answer saying that my 76-years-old mother’s presence was very much required.
I politely requested him to send a representative at my home at their convenience and he too politely refused saying it was not as per the law. My mother is really not interested to get it corrected at this age because she is not capable of presenting herself at the office. Hope this will not create trouble for us at a later stage
I have even emailed to the Chairman of UIDAI after the recent unsuccessful attempt to correct the same. Hope the chairman will look into the matter.
If such minor issues cannot be sorted out by the local offices than there’s something seriously wrong with them.
They just can’t trouble the senior citizens for no fault of theirs. The Aadhar card was issued on the basis of her EPIC card which clearly states her year of birth as 1942 and if the Aadhaar authorities have entered 1992 in place of 1942, can my mother be held responsible for the error?
Hope better sense will prevail.
