Shubman Gill of India has claimed the No.1 spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Batting Rankings, toppling Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Gill’s impressive performance at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup propelled him to the top, making him the fourth Indian player to hold the No.1 ODI batter ranking, following in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.
Gill’s recent scores of 92 against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa contributed to his rise, accumulating a total of 219 runs from six innings in the tournament. Babar Azam, on the other hand, has scored 282 runs in eight World Cup innings and drops to the second spot, ending his reign of over two years as the No.1 ranked ODI batter.

India saw a significant shake-up in both batting and bowling rankings due to strong performances in the World Cup. Notably, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj climbed to the top of the list for ODI bowlers with ten wickets in the tournament. Shreyas Iyer also made an impressive jump to the 18th spot in the list for ODI batters, while several other players from different teams also moved up the rankings.
The ODI bowler rankings experienced a major transformation, with four Indian players inside the top 10. Siraj reclaimed the No.1 ranking, while teammates Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami secured positions within the top 10. South African spinner Keshav Maharaj and Australian counterpart Adam Zampa also made significant moves inside the top 10. The World Cup’s leading wicket-taker, Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka, jumped to the 45th position on the list for ODI bowlers, and several other players climbed the rankings due to their standout performances. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan maintained his No.1 rank among all-rounders.
