Vasco will be garbage-free by May 15: Swachh panel

VASCO: The Swachh Bharat mission committee of Mormugao taluka Wednesday vowed to make Vasco garbage free by May 15 and called upon all the stakeholders to contribute towards the mission of making Vasco garbage free.

VASCO: The Swachh Bharat mission committee of Mormugao taluka Wednesday vowed to make Vasco garbage free by May 15 and called upon all the stakeholders to contribute towards the mission of making Vasco garbage free. The decision was taken at a high level meeting held at the tourist hall in Vasco and was attended by all the stake holders.
The meeting of the committee was chaired by Vasco MLA Carlos Almieda. It started with the oral presentations made by representatives of various schools as well as social and religious institution heads on how they are handling their garbage and the issues faced by them. 
The meeting was held to brief the stakeholders about the massive cleanliness drive to be held in front of Mormugao municipal building on February 26, which will be attended by Governor Mridula Sinha. The drive is part of ‘Swachh Goa Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
“As Governor Mridula Sinha has taken the initiative and has adopted five towns including Vasco under the Swachh Goa Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. We are trying to organise a massive cleanliness drive on February 26 by giving responsibilities to all the stake holders. The MMC is working on door-to-door garbage scheme,” said MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik
Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Rana, IAS, said that “It is the responsibility of all the people and even the tourists to keep Goa clean. Thus as our Governor has taken it as a mission we all are making efforts to make Goa clean.”
