Pernem: The Tuem village panchayat has objected to setting up a COVID Centre at the Tuem panchayat hall after the Tuem Community Health Centre, Health Officer Dr Vidya Parab along with Joint Mamlatdar Pernem Priya Kamant and other officials inspected the premises.
“We accept the decision of setting up COVID Centre in every taluka, however without taking the panchayat members into considerations, the officials conducted the inspection, which is not correct,” said Sarpanch Suhas Naik. “The panchayat office is located above the hall where panchyat staff as well as people exit and enter regularly. If the Centre is set up here then there are chances that the visitors may get infected” he added.

“There is a panchyat library also above the panchayat house. There is a sports ground, gym and the electricity dept nearby. Setting up a Centre here is a risk to health of the people,” added panch Kishor Naik.
“The CM had declared that the stadium at Sawalwada will be used as a COVID Centre. If they don’t want to do that, then they can use the new under-construction hospital premise at Tuem. But a COVID Centre in the panchayat hall is unacceptable as it’s a residential area,” said former Sarpanch Uday Mandrekar.
Dr Vidya Parab said they inspected the panchayat hall as per the Pernem Deputy Collector’s instructions.
“However, we haven’t received anything in writing with regards to setting up a COVID Centre at the Tuem pancyat hall or Sawalwada stadium,” Parab added.
