Through Herald I have several times brought to the attention of the authorities of the danger posed on the road named after Pe Pedro Ferrao, erroneously called Ambaji Road in Fatorda, which connects two district highways, one passing in front of Collectorate building and other adjacent to PJN Stadium (eastern side). Located along this road over a distance less than 100 metres there is a school, church, bank, supermarket, health clinic and the main gate of PJN Stadium.
There is heavy movement of vehicles zooming across this broad and smooth road. Pedestrians, especially senior citizens and school children trying to cross the road face a real nightmare. A number of accidents have taken place in the last three years along this section of the road and I have witnessed two accidents, one in which an elderly woman was hit by a speeding biker. The lady sustained a leg fracture and continues to be handicapped.
Another accident was a collision between two bikes in which a person was seriously injured. On November 3, at about 8.30 am there was car-scooter collision in front of the health clinic in which the rider sustained serious injuries and had to be admitted to the hospital in an ambulance. Fortunately, so far there has not been any casualties. Installing speed breakers/rumblers/zebra crossings at appropriate places is needed as this would compel the speeding vehicles to slow down considerably. We appeal to the concerned authorities to urgently take some action. Ultimately, the safety of pedestrians, school children and vehicle drivers deserves serious attention.
