CUNCOLIM: The opposition group of councillors of the Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) have opposed the decision of councillors of the ruling group to shift the traditional fair for the upcoming Our Lady of Health Church feast to Kalta near KTC bus stand.
Opposition Councillor Videsh Dessai accused the CMC ruling councillors of acting as dictators. “How can the ruling group of councillors take a unilateral decision without bringing the issue at CMC meeting? We are against this. The ruling group must take all councillors and citizens into confidence before taking such a decision. How seven councillors can decide on the traditional feast fair,” Dessai questioned.
“I will discuss the issue with the MLA and seek his intervention”, Dessai said.
Opposition councillors allege something fishy and have demanded an explanation from the ruling group of councillors on the reason behind the “unwanted” move. The ruling group of councillors cited traffic congestion as the reason behind the decision.
It may be noted that the market place was used by vendors to erect stalls during the feast fair to sell items such as furniture, cloth, utensils etc. All this vendors were using the Church-owned property and the market place to erect the stalls.
