According to sources, the teacher allegedly slapped a Std 5 girl student as punishment. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the girl suddenly shut the door of the classroom, injuring the fingers of a boy student. Angered by the act of the girl, the teacher allegedly slapped the girl as punishment.
The girl, who went home half day, narrated the incident to her father, who later filed a police complaint. The PTA of the school tried to solve the matter by calling an urgent meeting on Thursday morning.
When contacted, Valpoi PI Sanjay Dalvi informed that the teacher was arrested on Wednesday after the girl’s father filed a complaint stating that her daughter was assaulted by the teacher.
PI Dalvi informed that the teacher was produced in the Children Court Panjim on Thursday. The court released the teacher on bail.
PI Dalvi said about 60 Students from the school had gathered at Keri police outpost at about 11 am on Thursday demanding the release of the teacher. However, police managed to pacify the students by convincing them that the matter is in the court. Later, the students dispersed from the site.
Keri Sarpanch Jivba Rane also supported the students and said the students will not attend the classes till the teacher is released.
