PANJIM: While 28.09 per cent (exempted category) and 10.71 per cent (whole category) have passed the SSC exams conducted in October this year, 30.18 per cent (exempted category ) and 29.63 per cent (whole category) have passed the HSSC October exams conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
The results declared Monday by the Goa Board indicates a seemingly low pass percentage with the process now on to stop the October exams of HSSC candidates.
The Goa Board conducts SSC and HSSC exams in October while it also conducts a supplementary exams for HSSC candidates a month after the Board results are declared in May.
“We may now think of doing away with the second opportunity provided to HSSC students to appear for an exam in October,” said Chairman of the Goa Board J R Rebello.
Unveiling the results of the October exams, it was pointed out that for HSSC exams as many as 1021 candidates appeared while 308 passed. In the Arts stream a total of 327 candidates appeared and 112 passed. In the Commerce stream 385 appeared and 98 passed, in the Science stream 234 appeared of which 71 passed while in the Vocational stream 75 appeared and 27 passed.
At the SSC exams a total of 2705 appeared and only 755 passed. The SSC examination of October, 2013 was conducted between October 1 and 11, 2013 at five centers. The examination centres of were at Mapusa, Margao, Panjim, Ponda and Curchorem. The candidates who appeared for this examination had opted to answer through English, Marathi and Urdu. The candidates had selected Hindi as their Second language.
Rebello said that the Goa Board is now gearing for conduct the SSC and HSSC exams of 2014 which are scheduled between March 1 to 15, 2014.
Deliberations have started for conduct of the exams which are being held simultaneously for Classes X and XII.
