MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana began their campaign in the GFA First Division league on triumphant note as they registered a fluent 3-0 win over Panjim Footballers, at DYSA ground, Curtorim, on Thursday. They led 2-0 at the breather.
Curtorim broke the deadlock in the ninth minute when striker Milagres Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Spurred by the early success, Curtorim intensified their attacks and doubled the lead in the 29th minute after Joaquim Carvalho headed home off a cross by Milagres.
Post resumption, Curtorim continued in same vein with their forwards troubling the rival defence with sporadic raids. Milagres was in thick action and struck for the second time in the 62nd minute.
Curtorim were unlucky as Cliffton Fernandes’ efforts hit the crossbar on two occasions.
At 3MTR ground, Navelim, new entrants Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem rallied from behind to hold Corps of Signals in a 1-1 draw.
