PANJIM: The Goenchya Kul Mundkaracho Aawaz and Kul MUndkar Samiti believes the anti-people policies of the State government are being created with a one-point agenda of marginalising traditional communities of Goa and dispossessing them of their traditional rights.
Drawing attention to the Goa Agriculture Tenancy (Amendment) Act, 2014, the Goenchya Kul Mundkaracho Aawaz & Kul Mundkar Samiti felt this was part of the hidden agenda seeking to take away lands from tenants.
Pointing out that the government seems to have conveniently forgotten that the original noble intention of the 1965 Tenancy Act was to provide security to land fillers, who were actually cultivating the land for the survival and the food security of the community, the Samiti flayed the provision on the 2014 Act compelling tenants to declare their Tenancy in the Civil Court.
The government is surely aware that under the present system, the mamlatdars through talathis and other staff obtain reports through physical inspection and verification while civil court relies solely on documentation, which in many instances is difficult for tenant to obtain.
Samiti also informed that the agenda of the government to transfer lands to vested interests, builders and corporate lobbies is very clear from the fact that under the amendment, if land lies fallow, it will revert back to landowner, instead of being given by the mamlatdar to the adjoining tenant or forming a co-operative as per the old Act.
