PANJIM: Keeping in view the festive season of Diwali, the North Goa Police have been keeping a hawk’s eye on persons with criminal backgrounds to maintain law and order in the State.

North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshat Kaushal, said a series of proactive measures have been implemented to curb criminal activities and maintain public safety.
“ Policemen at all police stations have been directed to monitor the movements of habitual offenders. During the last week, the antecedents of 85 history sheeters have been thoroughly checked and police have been directed to monitor their movements and keep a watch on their lifestyle,” the SP said.
“Duty Officers have been instructed to carry out surprise checks at the residences of anti social elements during the night. This is being done daily to keep a tab on their activities and ensure compliance with the law. Enhanced surveillance has been mounted on all known criminals across the district. This measure aims to deter any potential criminal activity and enable swift action if necessary,” Kaushal said.
Coordination has been established with the District Collector to initiate externment proceedings against habitual offenders, it said.
According to the statement, there are 100 history sheeters in North Goa district. “While checking, a lot of emphasis is being put on identifying their present sources of income, new modes of communication and the company they are keeping,” the statement added.
