PERNEM: Pernem Municipal Council Chairperson Dr Siddhesh Pednekar, former chairperson Dr Vasudev Deshprabhu and former Zilla Panchayat member Tukaram Harmalkar stopped the digging work at Malpe as it would create trouble for locals with monsoon around the corner.
The work was underway to lay the underground electricity cables. They asked the contractor to resume the work after the monsoon and at the end of Chaturthi festival.
They visited Pernem PWD Road Engineer Shivanand Malik to ask if the department had granted an NOC for the work to which Malik said that although the PWD did not give any permission, the work was being carried out after obtaining required permissions from the North Goa Collector.
The supervisor of the contractor concerned showed the NOC to the chairperson but he brought it to the supervisor’s notice that it mentions digging work at the side of the road. Malik assured the chairperson of stopping the work after informing his seniors.
Due to the ongoing work, the traffic was diverted from the longer route and the heaps of dug up mud were causing grave inconvenience to the motorists.
