MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar has urged the farmers to take benefit of bandharas in their locality and cultivate their fields throughout the year.

Kavalekar was speaking after laying foundation stone for a bandhara in Padi village on Friday.
“The government is improving agriculture infrastructure and the farmers should take full benefit of it,” Kavalekar, who holds the agriculture portfolio, said.
Elaborating on the thrust being given by the government, the minister said, “The government is currently investing in agricultural infrastructure, and this bandhara is also a part of this mission. Three bandharas will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.1 crore, and this is the first of the three. I urge the farmers of Barcem to take benefit of the bandharas and cultivate your fields throughout the year. This will not only help you improve your financial status, but will also help the whole of Goa to eat healthy local fruits and vegetables.”
“Since the fruits and vegetables produced by Goan farmers are not sufficient to meet the demands, under Horticulture Corporation, every month, we import fruits and vegetables worth Rs 6-7 crore from other States. Therefore, if the farmers modernise their techniques and make full use of these bandharas and newer infrastructure facilities that the government is setting up, everyone will benefit out of it. I urge the local panchas and ZP members to positively motivate local farmers in this regard,” he said.
Others present on the occasion were ZP member Khushshi Velip, Barse Sarpanch Malu Velip, Panchas Savita Velip, Arjun Velip and Laxman Velip.
