PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed fresh election for Comunidade of Serula, as it set aside election of substitute committee held on March 3, 2019.
During the hearing of a petition on Friday, the bench ordered competent authority to hold the fresh poll. The petition challenges voting conducted by ‘raising hands’ alleging that number of votes actually exceeded the number of registered voters.
In the election held 11 months ago, Peter Martin panel had won the election, held at Azad Bhavan in Porvorim.
Since the election process on January 27, 2019 was held amidst tension at the voting venue wherein 575 voters were present, election on March 3, 2019 was conducted in the presence of huge police personnel. Around 375 voters were present. The government had imposed Section 144 CrPC around the poll venue to ensure completion of the process as per High Court direction.
