PANJIM: A Calangute local has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar. He is the fifth person to be arrested; four persons from Maharastra are already in custody for the offence.
Alfy Savio Lobo is charged with hatching the conspiracy. The Panjim police are probing reason for making a bid to extort the minister. “We are investigating why he resorted to extortion bid and how he planned it out. The Panjim JMFC has rejected his bail and remanded to three days police custody. He is being interrogated,” a senior officer said.
The Panjim police have made four arrests in the case with a 40 year old businessman Manish Shah the last person to be taken into custody.
Rishikesh Patil, Pravin Naik and Amol Sami, all from Sangli in Maharashtra were arrested soon after the minister had lodged a complaint that he was receiving calls from unknown persons demanding Rs 3 crore from him. They were arrested from near the official residence of the minister in Altinho, the officer said.
