Claiming that majority of Congress workers swept the municipal elections in the State, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that people have voted for development.
The chief minister attributed the victory to the development work carried out by his party throughout the State.
“Majority of the Congress workers have got elected which indicates that the Congress party is gaining more ground in the State,” he told reporters adding “it is good governance which has paid in these civic polls.”
“This victory has come days after the bye-election in Valpoi, which Vishwajeet Rane won by over 8000 votes,” he said adding “this is once again a vote of development endorsed by the people residing in the municipal areas,” Kamat said.
Eleven municipal councils in the State went for polls on Sunday which saw 72.62 per cent people exercising their right.
“Though the elections were not fought on party basis, the results which have come in indicate, in all the municipal councils, Congress workers have swept the polls,” Kamat said.
