Govt to announce modalities of RP implementation later this month

Parrikar, D’Souza discuss need to amend the TCP Act; Another meet to finalize modalities on December 12; issue of filling vacant posts in TCP department also taken up

PANJIM: An announcement with regard to how the government plans to go ahead with the implementation of the Regional Plan 2021 will be made later this month, Deputy Chief Minister and Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister, Francis D’Souza said on Sunday, after a brief meeting on the issue with Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The leaders also discussed the need to amend the TCP Act to make granting of construction permissions more stringent along with imposing heavy punishment and penalties on people involved in illegal construction activities.
Parrikar, former chief minister and also minister for TCP, Sunday evening, briefed D’Souza on the contentious issue of RP 2021 and also discussed a few modalities for implementation of the plan.
Another meeting to finalize the modalities is scheduled on December 12, when Parrikar will be making a three-day visit to Goa. D’Souza was allocated the TCP portfolio last month after the change in the post of chief minister.
Speaking to Herald, D’Souza said, “We will put up a brief idea before the public and stakeholders as to how the government plans to go ahead with the Regional Plan.” He added that suggestions of stakeholders would be taken into consideration before taking any final decision.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that since only 15 village panchayats have raised strong and severe objections to the plan, the entire plan might not be put forth before public. “The meeting scheduled on December 12 will shed more light on the modalities,” he stated.
D’Souza had on Saturday expressed possibility of making the land plan for the State till 2025 (RP 2025), considering the fact that lot of time is been wasted in implementing RP 2021.
The meeting also discussed about filling up of vacant posts in the TCP department.
