PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has filed a case against Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, tourism officials and the beach cleaning contractors in the alleged beach cleaning scam.
In its complaint to Crime Branch and Vigilance, the party has sought a case of cheating, criminal conspiracy and corruption charges be registered against the concerned.
“The expenses incurred for beach garbage cleaning which was just over Rs 1 crore for South Goa in the previous year becomes more than Rs 7 crore the next year and for North Goa from Rs 86 lakh approximately to around Rs 7.51 lakh within a span of one year. It needs to be noted that the cost of cleaning uses the length of the beach as one of the tools to measure the incurring cost and as it is understood the length of the beach cannot increase. The rise in expenditure suddenly raises stink of corruption,” the complaint filed by the party’s general secretary Sunil Kawthankar states.
The complainant further alleged that the tender conditions were conveniently modified to accommodate and help the agencies – Bhumika Cleantech Services Pvt Ltd and Ram Cleaners and Developers Pvt Ltd – by Parulekar and officials of the department. “A thorough inquiry has to be done into the tendering process too,” he said.
