Scrap yards: Govt assures to file affidavits

The Goa Government today told the Bombay High Court that it would file the affidavits in regard to the guidelines for setting up of scrap yards by next hearing.
When the matter came up before the court today morning, Advocate General Subhot Kantak told the court that the action committee has already formulated the guidelines for preventing the mushrooming of illegal scrap yards in the state.
The matter will now be heard on August 31.
A division bench comprising Justice S B Deshmukh and Justice U D Salvi was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Jatin Ramaiya, a law student, complaining about the increasing number of illegal scrap yards in Ponda.
Responding to the petition, AG had said at action was initiated against illegal scrap yards; and, there was a proposal to shift scrap yards to industrial estates.
Earlier, last month, the court had said that they will pass an interim order if the State Government fails to formulate all the essential guidelines for setting up of scrap yards by July 27.
