MARGAO: Political analysts have termed BJP’s surgical strike against the MGP as detrimental to the saffron party with regards to future elections.
Reacting to the episode, Prabhakar Timble said, “What has happened with the MGP MLAs was expected. The BJP avoided taking any step in a hurry but sucked the wind out of Dhavalikar brothers, who were adamant. Ministerial colleagues have no sympathy for Sudin Dhavalikar. The public seems to be delighted that the MGP supremo, who had made the PWD and Transport portfolios his personal fiefdom for over two decades, is isolated.”
He said that the MGP will now be an irritant for BJP and multi-cornered contests are expected to spoil BJP’s chances. “That way, under Dhavalikars, MGP is not a potent force now. The outcome of parliamentary and by-elections will influence the future political games of coalition partners and BJP,” said Timble.
He said that the sword of merger hangs on GFP, but they have till now played guarded and mature moves.
Adv Cleofato Almeida Coutinho said, “The fast forward politics from 2017 to 2019 has made us a laughing stalk in the country. The BJP robbed the State of its mandate and formed a Government. This was because the Governor was available for them do work at their will”.
“They have made mince meat of the anti-defection law, in fact the law has been brutalised in Goa. Resignations of Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar are for money and power,” Cleofato alleged.
“They are making a joke of the entire democratic system. Whether the merger is correct or not will be decided by the courts as and when the case appears. The issue of freezing of symbol and its impact of the same on the original party will be decided as and when someone approaches the Election Commission,” he told.
