PANJIM: After a gap of over a week, the southwest monsoon turned active over Goa again with the State receiving heavy rain during the last four days. IMD recorded 8 inches of rainfall since July 17, taking the seasonal total to 70 inches, which is 10 inches above normal.
Heavy to very heavy showers lashed the State in the past few days leading to complaints of water logging in many parts, throwing normal life out of gear. IMD Goa observatory has predicted heavy showers till July 23.
“The southwest monsoon has become active over Goa. Rainfall accompanied with gusty winds have been witnessed over the last few days,” director VK Mini said. July 17 has been the wettest day of the month so far with over three inches of rainfall being recorded.
After receiving excess rain in June, the southwest monsoons had weakened over the Goa coast earlier this month, with day and night temperatures also soaring above the normal.
In June, the State had received 48 inches of rains, nearly 30 percent more than the normal, whereas in July till date, it has recorded 22 inches of rain.
