PANJIM: Reacting sharply to Shiv Sena demanding an inquiry into the legal expenses of the team handling the vexed legal battle for its rights over its Mhadei river, with Maharashtra and Karnataka, former AG and India’s Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni has asked the government to find another counsel to head the team. “This is too low. This is the level to which this has fallen. I am doing this out of my love for Goa and because I was asked to. Since I’m on my legs in court, I will complete my hearing and then step down,” Nadkarni said.
A North Karnataka MP, rattled by Adv Nadkarni’s arguments before the National Water Disputes Tribunal, has asked for Nadkarni’s removal from the case, as this would cause “grave injustice” to Karnataka.
Karnataka also roped in two senior counsel, Fali Nariman and Nail Diwan, to add to the group of three other senior advocates in the Mhadei case.
It is significant to note here though, that the Shiv Sena is a partner in the BJP-led alliance government in Maharashtra and the Mhadei water that Maharashtra is in this legal battle for, will flow into constituencies of some Shiv Sena MLAs.
