MARGAO: Young Strikers Benaulim grounded Cortalim Gymkhana 2-0 in GFA U-14 football league match (Salcete zone), at Cansaulim ground, on Thursday.
The match started on a promising note with Young Strikers Benaulim making dangerous moves upfront through strikers Rayvan Pereira, Kegan Fernandes and Lante Saldanha.
It was Rayvan who opened the scoring in the 22nd minute for Young Strikers Benaulim with a powerful grounder off an assist by Kegan.
With the change of ends, Young Strikers Benaulim doubled their advantage through Rayvan’s venomous left-footer in the 68th minute after being set up by Lante.
Cortalim Gymkhana tried hard to come back but failed to find the target as Aaron Mendes shot wide in the 70th minute.
At Quitula ground, Quitula Sports Club consisting players trained by GFDC defeated Arpora Sporting 5-0 after leading 2-0 at half time.
Adin Aga opened the floodgates in the 17th minute while Aman Bhore made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute. Aman secured his brace after the break in the 45th minute. Yash Parwar also secured a brace with goals in the 41st and 48th minutes.
At St Cruz ground, Dempo Sports Club ripped apart Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim 11-0.
Foley Dias scored four goals (9th, 14th, 18th & 22nd), Stewart De Mello scored three goals (42nd, 61st & 70th), Fedrick Fernandes scored a brace (20th & 62nd) while Savil Cardozo (54th) and Desmond D’Silva (47th) scored a goal each.
Dempo SC started the match on the front foot and goalkeeper howler gifted the blues the first goal when Foley Dias’ shot was let in by the keeper.
Moments later Dias doubled the lead with a clean placement that gave no room for the keeper. Foley Dias than completed his hat trick in style in the 22nd minute when the former headed Maximo’s cross beautifully at the back of the net.
Dempo led 5-0 at break with Fedrick and Stewart also scoring for the blues in the first half.
Crossing ends, Dempo went all out and scored six goals through Desmond D’Silva, Savil Cardozo and Stewart DeMello,
Learoyd was instrumental for the blues providing assists for his teammates which also helped Stewart De Mello complete his hat-trick in the 70th minute after laying a inch perfect for the star striker.
